South Bend INCPAS Scholars Schedule of Events
August: Welcome Dinner for Students and Parents
Students and a guardian will attend a dinner and will be matched with their mentor. Additionally, students will receive their INCPAS Scholars toolkits.
September: Dress & Dine to Impress
The Dress & Dine to Impress event will teach INCPAS Scholars about appropriate business attire and dining etiquette at a business event. INCPAS Scholars will receive a complete business professional outfit (at no charge) that will be worn on office visits and other INCPAS Scholars outings.
October: Visit to Industry
INCPAS Scholars will meet at the Society for breakfast before departing to South Bend-area companies that employ CPAs. Previous visits have included LOGAN Resources and Inovateus Solar. This is an opportunity for INCPAS Scholars to see another side of the CPA profession and learn the ins and outs of being a CPA at a private company.
November: College Night
ISUB will host College Night for INCPAS Scholars and their guardians. INCPAS Scholars will learn the ins and outs of financial aid, FASFA and scholarships. Additionally, various college representatives will be present to provide information about their accounting programs. Lastly, students will leave with a college application check list for the coming months.
December: Holiday Party
At the Holiday Party, INCPAS Scholars and mentors will meet to have fun and reflect on the first semester of the INCPAS Scholars program. Scholars, mentors and INCPAS staff will participate in fun games and enjoy a catered meal.
February: CPA Day
For CPA Day, INCPAS Scholars will be at a local CPA firm and will hear from a variety of CPAs in different areas in of the profession (audit/ nonprofit/forensic). Additionally, Scholars will work on actual case studies and will get a taste of what accounting is all about!
March: Visit to Indiana College
Having a college experience is extremely important when deciding to pursue accounting as a major. INCPAS Scholars will be picked up from school and will be taken to an Indiana college. INCPAS Scholars will tour the dorms, dining halls and the accounting department. A panel of accounting students will talk with the INCPAS Scholars about what they should expect once they’re on campus.
April: Game On: CPAs in Action
High school students will gather in downtown South Bend for the Society's annual career awareness program, Game On: CPAs in Action. Game On focuses on the importance of graduating from high school and promotes careers in the CPA profession to minority high school students. Students will participate in a variety of interactive exercises as well as go on an office visit.
May: Presentation to Classmates about INCPAS Scholars
INCPAS Scholars will be required to give a presentation to their peers (Careers class, Accounting/Business classes, etc.) about the CPA profession and what they’ve learned over the past nine months. Additionally, INCPAS Scholars will promote the INCPAS Scholars program and will recruit the next class of INCPAS Scholars. INCPAS will work with college readiness teachers to coordinate the presentations.
June/July: Job Shadow Week
INCPAS Scholars will have a meaningful job shadow with their mentor’s firm/company. This job shadow will give the INCPAS Scholars a hands-on experience where they’ll learn the ins and outs of the CPA profession.
August: Scholars Luncheon
INCPAS Scholars will be recognized at the Indiana CPA Society Scholars Reception and will be presented with academic gifts of $500 and awards for the successful completion of the INCPAS Scholars program.
