DOR Commissioner Adam Krupp

The 2019 individual income tax season ran from January 28 through April 15, but Indiana Department of Revenue’s tax season extends well beyond the April 15 date. Paper returns are processed throughout the month of May and bills are sent out in June.

Below are some statistics to give some insights into this year:

But how does this compare to last year? In 2018, 3.15 million tax returns were processed with $4 million in tax fraud stopped. The average time to process an electronic return was 11 days with 92% processed within 14 days. Paper returns were processed in 28 days with 75% processed within 60 days.

DOR has worked diligently over the past year to ensure our processes are efficient. As shown by the statistics, processing time has gone down significantly in the past year, resulting in refunds in the hands of customers in as little as 10 days!
