What is the best thing you’ve read recently?

The “Game of Thrones” series by George R.R. Martin. Now I’m impatiently waiting on the last two to be published! It’s nice to immerse myself in something completely unrelated to work sometimes.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I really enjoy helping small business owners. Whether it’s answering a quick question about QuickBooks or providing an involved analysis related to selling their business, the expertise we provide as a trusted advisor really makes a difference to our clients.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the profession?

Be open to learning every aspect of our profession, from bookkeeping to complex financial analysis. Don’t limit yourself or have preconceived ideas about what you want to do with your career—you might discover something you never knew you would enjoy.

How do you unwind after a busy day at the office?

By going to see my horses! It always makes my day better, even if I only have time to stop by and give them a little love before I go home.

What do you do in your volunteer role at Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding?

I am on the board and currently serve as treasurer. I provide support related to any financial questions that come up and assist with reconciling the books and preparing the tax returns.

What is your horse’s name? How many other horses do you own?

This is Ladybug, my 12-year-old thoroughbred mare. I also own two of Ladybug’s offspring, a 3-year-old gelding named Altair and a yearling named Moontown Al. It has been so much fun riding Ladybug and doing some local shows the last few years. I can’t wait to start riding Altair later this year!

How long have you been riding horses?

I’ve been riding since I was eight years old. I’ve always loved hanging around the barn, but I didn’t get my first horse until I was 30. The last four years have been a dream come true for me.
