INCPAS Chair Jennifer Knecht, CPA, reflects on the past year in her leadership role.
What did you enjoy most about your year as INCPAS Chair?
As I reflect on the past year, there are two things that come to mind.
First, I really enjoyed meeting new people and learning from them. Second, I really enjoyed collaborating with the INCPAS Board of Directors and staff to move the profession forward. These leaders are super passionate about the profession, and I am so proud to serve with them. I certainly would not have predicted last July that I would end my term during a global health crisis, but here we are. CPAs have always risen to challenges before, and they are rising to them now.
How would you encourage other members to get involved with INCPAS?
I got involved with INCPAS early in my career because I had a desire to give back to my chosen profession. Along the way, I have found my volunteer efforts to be truly rewarding. INCPAS has so many opportunities to become involved in that I am certain there is something for everyone. I would recommend members go to the INCPAS website and search
volunteer opportunities. You can find a description of the numerous options available, including leadership, career awareness, ethnic diversity and advocacy, to name a few. Once you identify your interests, fill out the form and submit. It really is as easy as that to get started. Of course, you can always contact the staff about volunteer opportunities, too.
During this past year our task forces worked hard to reimagine the future of INCPAS and refresh the strategic plan. Our work was focused in three key areas: 1) changing workforce, 2) disruptive and emerging technology, and 3) advocacy.
What are you excited about leaving as the groundwork you've laid for future leadership?
When we began the year, I encouraged the INCPAS Board and staff to be bold in thinking about the future. During this past year our task forces worked hard to reimagine the future of INCPAS and refresh the strategic plan. Our work was focused in three key areas: 1) changing workforce, 2) disruptive and emerging technology, and 3) advocacy. This work will be transformational for the Society. Finally, I was recently reminded of a quote, attributed to several individuals in various forms, that I think is fitting to share here: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” I think the INCPAS Board and staff did amazing work this year and there are great things ahead for the Society.
