What's the significance of the bus in your picture?
I am on one of the buses operated by DoubleMap’s client GO Express Travel. This 56-passenger charter bus transports Cummins workers between the Columbus, IN and downtown Indianapolis campuses.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Collaborating with individuals who all bring different skills and viewpoints to the team.
What's the best thing you've read recently?
"Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It” by former FBI Hostage Negotiator Chris Voss. It’s a book about negotiating, but it goes beyond that. The author teaches how to use emotional intelligence to “control your destiny.”
What's your favorite app and way?
Waze—it’s a map app, but what’s different is it allows millions of users to report traffic events in real time. It comes in handy when commuting so I can pick the quickest route based on traffic.
What made you decide to become a CPA?
In college I was really interested in figuring out how businesses worked. After taking my first accounting course, I saw I could dissect the different parts of a business to understand how they worked together.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the profession?
Your formal education may end after college, but no matter where you are in your career, never stop growing your skills. Read books by interesting people who are crushing it in their field and meet new people, even outside of the accounting world.
How does DoubleMap serve its clients?
We partner with our clients to help them provide valuable services to their riders. For example, GO Express Travel recently added a shuttle to their route that transports passengers between downtown Indy and the airport. DoubleMap provides GPS tracking and the software and mobile app that allows both the administrators and riders to see where the bus is located on the route and when it will reach a particular bus stop.
How do you unwind after a busy day at the office?
I grew up in a musically talented family. I love playing guitar and singing; it helps me to disconnect from the world.
