CPA Trends, Accounting Enrollment & Pipeline Challenges

Courtney Kincaid, CAE, Indiana CPA Society

In this session, Kincaid will review major changes impacting the CPA profession now and those expected in the near future. She’ll share details on the AICPA’s new “8-Point Plan” to help with the accounting talent pipeline; the Center for Audit Quality’s research and initiatives to increase diversity efforts; and INCPAS’ strategies to connect more students to CPA outreach and opportunities in Indiana.

Incorporating Sustainability/ESG into the Accounting Curriculum

Sandra Vera-Munoz, Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame

Sandra Vera-Munoz will discuss how Notre Dame’s Accountancy Department at the Mendoza College of Business is helping students to understand, analyze, and critically evaluate existing and emerging practices in the fast-evolving field of sustainability accounting standards and frameworks, as well as the key elements of SEC regulation and other prominent legislation and requirements for corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures. Topics will include course content, learning assessments, and teaching resources.

CPA Evolution and the 2024 CPA Exam

An update from the AICPA on the conclusion of the research project (practice analysis) that defined the Core and Discipline content for the CPA Evolution-Aligned CPA Exam Blueprints that were published in January 2023. AICPA will discuss the 2024 CPA Exam Blueprints and everything you need to know about the transition and testing schedule for the 2024 CPA Exam. Big Data Crossroads: Infusing Emergent Technology into the Curriculum

Big data has the potential to improve operational efficiency, drive new revenue streams and help organizations gain competitive advantages over business rivals. To that end, big data combined with the power of emerging technologies such as robotics process automation (RPA), artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IOT), and blockchain have great potential provide value in new ways. Despite the complexities and challenges of the situation, accounting education must respond to changing demands of business and the accounting profession. Many believe that accounting education will soon be remade by the possibilities and probabilities of “Big Data” and other emerging technologies necessitating the need to infuse big data analytics into the accounting curriculum. It’s no longer a question of whether big data analytics will reshape the accounting profession, but rather a question of how quickly.
