This article is part 2 of a 3-part series on studying for the CPA Exam. See part 1: 19 Strategies for Conquering the CPA Exam.

Most CPA candidates spend three to six months prepping for the CPA Exam, and—once you pass the first section—you have 36 months to finish the remaining three.

If you’re reading this, there’s no doubt you’re already aware the CPA Exam has quite a reputation—and, yeah, it can feel intimidating, especially if you’re not the type who lives to make study aids or spend countless hours tucked away in a library absorbing information. But here’s the thing: everyone learns differently, and there are plenty of effective ways to master the material you’ll need to get you over the hump and onto licensure.

“Here’s the thing: everyone learns differently, and there are plenty of effective ways to master the material you’ll need to get you over the hump and onto licensure.”

And the CPA Exam has evolved. The four-part exam is made up of Auditing and Attestation (AUD), Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), and Regulation (REG). For the fourth section, CPA candidates choose one discipline section: Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR), Information Systems and Controls (ISC), or Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP). That’s a lot—and each section is four hours long. But don’t worry—there are resources that can help you learn and retain what you need in a way that works best for you.

Review Courses

Here’s the scoop on some major review course options, with each one offering something a little different to fit a range of budgets and learning styles. As with any prep tool, what matters most is how you use it—and here’s a bonus: you can even get discounts through your INCPAS membership and apply for the INCPAS CPA Exam Scholarship to assist with out-of-pocket costs if the review courses seem out of reach.

People have passed the CPA Exam whether they’ve invested a ton of cash or kept costs minimal with budget-friendly options. Ultimately, it comes down to finding what clicks with your learning style and doesn’t wreak havoc on your bank account. Here are just a few options:
